Overview

A combination surgery, using both FUT (incisional) and FUE (non-incisional) hair transplant, is the best surgery if the area you would like to cover is very large and if you need to use more than 5,000 hairs to achieve the result you wish for your hair transplant.

Combining FUT and FUE hair transplant surgeries, you can transplant 6,000~8,000 hairs and cover a relatively large area compared to if you were only to receive one of the two surgeries only.

The doctor will create incisions at the back of the head from where he will remove the skin directly. After this, he will close the incision area with stitches, which will be in the skin for around 2 weeks. The doctor will use the harvested hairs from the piece of skin and will transplant them to the area you want, which can be around the hairline area, the crown of the head, the beard area, the eyebrows, etc. After the doctor is done with the full FUT part of the surgery, which means that he will have finished both the harvesting and the transplant, he will move on to the FUE part of the surgery. The doctor will shave off the hair at the back of the head from where he will harvest the hairs and will transplant them to the area you want, which can be around the hairline area, the crown of the head, the beard area, the eyebrows, etc.

Combining both surgical methods together, the doctor can transplant the maximum amount of hairs possible in one day.

FUT & FUE (combined) hair transplant surgery checklist:

· Do you suffer from a balding area that is relatively large?
· Would you like to receive the best hair transplant possible with the maximum amount of hairs necessary in one day? · Would you like a naturally-looking full hairdo again? · Would you like a hair surgery with permanent results?

Surgery information

Surgery time : 2.5 hours ~ 5.5 hours depending on the amount of hairs

Anesthesia : Local anesthesia only

Downtime : 14 days (recommended to stay in Korea for a little over 2 weeks). Stitch out is done 2 weeks after your surgery

Fasting : No fasting necessary

Surgery preparations
Please stop taking any non-essential medications and supplements, including but not limited to: Multivitamins, painkillers, Omega 3 Fish Oil, etc. Please also stop smoking and drinking alcohol starting a couple of days before your surgery. Please wash your hair the morning of the surgery and do not apply any hair products. Please do not drink any caffeinated beverages on the day of your surgery.

After 2 weeks, the doctor will remove your stitches. Most of the marks that the surgery left on the skin will not be visible anymore and any possible swelling or redness will have subsided. Final result of the hair transplant surgery can be seen 9-12 months after surgery.

Follow-up appointments
at least 2 check-ups. One follow-up the next day and a second check-up, including stitch out, two weeks after your surgery.

Recovery time

Day 1-4
You can see some redness in the areas treated (both the transplant and harvested areas). You might feel itchiness and swelling. You should ice your forehead / eyebrow area as much as possible to prevent swelling and you should not touch the area you received the hair transplant on at all for the first 2 weeks. Please wash your hair with the provided shampoo once a day. You should disinfect the area with stitches once a day for the first 2 weeks.

1-2 weeks
You will see scabs form in the areas treated by the surgery. Please do not pick at the scabs, but let them fall off naturally. You should continue washing your hair with the prescribed shampoo for the first week, as well as refrain from touching. Please keep washing and disinfecting the area with stitches. Stitch out is done 2 weeks after your surgery.

3-4 weeks
After 3 or 4 weeks, the top parts of the hairs that have been transplanted will start to fall out over the course of 3-4 months. Do not worry when this happens, because the lower part of the hairs will stay inside the skin. You can take your regular supplements and any necessary medication again after 3-4 weeks. Please only tap your hair and do not rub it while washing it with regular shampoo.

2-3 months
You might experience folliculitis during the recovery. Please treat the folliculitis as soon as possible. When you do not treat the folliculitis, the hairs in the area that the folliculitis occurs might be permanently lost. Starting 2 months after surgery, you can wash your hair any way you would like, as well as apply any hair products, get a perm, etc.

4-6 months
You will start seeing the first results from the surgery. Smoking and drinking is possible.

7-12 months
Your hair will continue to grow out and look more natural. You can see the final result after 1 year.
